We built on that with Conan Exiles, our first big success in the survival space. Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom, says, “Funcom has been pushing boundaries in the MMO genre for 20 years. Plot your rise to power and build your influence within the Landsraad through careful intrigue. Hunt for spice blooms and deploy your harvester, then protect it from rival factions in fast-paced, deadly combat that shifts seamlessly from armored groundcars to ornithopters in the sky. Narrowly escape colossal sandworms, build your home from shelter to mighty base, and traverse the dunes in iconic vehicles from the universe. Head into unmapped sectors and be the first to discover secrets and riches before the coriolis storms once again shift the sands and alter the landscape. Rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but players can head to the website to sign up for the beta.Dune: Awakening combines the grittiness and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large-scale, persistent multiplayer games to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO. Interestingly, this new game will take inspiration both from the author Frank Herbert’s Dune novels, as well as Denis Villeneuve's recent Dune movie. Of course, when you’re harvesting in-game both the sandworms and other player factions will be on their way to stop you. Players can explore the world using Dune’s various vehicles, find hidden treasure before sandstorms change the game-world and even use harvesters to gather spice. Instead, we got a neat cinematic of someone in a stillsuit (maybe this game’s version of Paul Atreides?), who speaks the series’ “fear is the mindkiller,” monologue before confronting a sandworm face to face.Īccording to a release from developer Funcom, the game will place thousands of players at once on a shared version of Arrakis, tasking them with building their own shelters, and later bases and and factions. The trailer for the game doesn’t include too much info about what players will actually be doing once the game arrives. The first full look at the game came in the form of a trailer during Gamescom 2022’s Opening Night Live presentation. Developer Funcom has revealed their latest game, Dune: Awakening, a survival MMO set in the Dune universe. It’s time to head back to the deserts of Arrakis.
